Day Dreams - Video Installation
In an environment dominated by fear-driven media, the acknowledgment that the power to vote carries profound implications for fellow humans often fades into oblivion. Ironically, becoming disconnected from one's political influence can be viewed as an act of inhumanity. Whether one remains apathetic or overly passionate, both attitudes contribute to fostering a hostile political landscape. The gravity of this reality can be both disheartening and overwhelming.
The video installation 'Day Dreams' emerged from interviews with seven individuals living in Dresden, a city in East Germany where the far-right party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) has recently gained significant voter support. Interview questions included "Do you think of other people when you vote?", "Do you think it is important to vote?", and "Why do you not vote?". These questions were to uncover deeper motivations and reasoning behind people's voting behaviors. The outcomes were notably morbid, reflecting this tone in the final work.
